The toolbox fallacy is a crutch used by the brain to disguise a latent fear of failure by preventing oneself from ever starting a project.
Essentially it goes
I can’t do (x) because I don’t yet have (y)
As an example:
I can’t go for a jog because I don’t have a fitbit
Or
I can’t do photography because I don’t have a fancy camera
These are excuses that we can tell ourselves to avoid having to actually start something so that we never have to deal with failing at the thing.
Instead it is more healthy to expect failure and criticism and use that feedback to improve our own learning.
